Session Title: Stupid Girl, New Vibe
Setup:
Bass: 1977 Fender Precision Bass
Guitar: Collings 290 DC S
Signal Chains:
Bass: Direct to BOSS RC-10R (Drum Loop: 8 Beat 1 Funk, 4/4, 110 BPM) to Yamaha THR10II
Guitar (Green Movement): 290 → Broadcast-AP → GFI Orca → Pro Junior IV
Vibe & Process:
Started the session on the groove machine with the ’77 P-Bass, laying down the intro bassline of Garbage’s “Stupid Girl” — a looping F♯m to B/B7 groove. Paired with a tight drum beat from the RC-10R, it felt immediately lock-in and hypnotic.
Switched gears mid-session:
Put the bass down and grabbed the Collings 290 plugged into Green Movement, bringing in the Broadcast-AP and Orca. I ran F♯ minor scales, improvised melodies up and down the neck, letting the loop guide the dynamics.
The tones were textured, expressive, and beautifully raw — a natural transition from rhythm to lead. The delay added air and depth without overwhelming the rhythm.
Takeaway:
This spontaneous 10-minute session reminded me how gear, feel, and intent can sync beautifully. No need for overplanning — the vibe will lead if the loop is strong. The ’77 P-Bass laid the groove, the 290 sang the melody. I followed.
