Yesterday, we said goodbye to our beloved 1986 MIJ Yamaha U1 upright piano. She’s been a part of our family for over a decade, guiding our girls through their piano journeys—up to grade 3 and grade 6—and giving me countless moments of quiet doodling on the black and white keys.
We acquired her used for S$4,200 between 10 to 15 years ago. Looking back, every dollar was worth it. She wasn’t just a piano; she was a teacher, a companion, and a sanctuary for creativity.
As our music gear ecosystem expanded and our daughter claimed her own room, it was time for the piano to move on too. Today, she begins her next chapter with a local church, serving in the traditional choir. There is no dusty corner, no forgotten home—just music, purpose, and a life continuing in harmony.
It’s a quiet but fitting end for an instrument that gave so much: discipline, patience, and joy. Though she’s no longer in our living space, the echoes of her music will linger in our hearts.
Thank you, Piano. You did your job beautifully.
