So I went back to try the made-in-China pbass (the house brand) in that shop I mentioned in the last post. I figured if she could give me a decent pbass sound, I would buy her. After trying her again, I bought her at $169. She is cheap and is a copy of the pbass, but she does a decent job with her pbass sound. At her price point, it’s no risk at all. I have figured I can use her as my working pbass while I put my MIJ Fender on sale. If I could sell the Fender for a good price, the money could get me a G&L telecaster with MFD pickups. Oh yes, the brand new pbass is Smiger (not Signour that the shop soundalchemy had claimed).
Oh, I have tried the D’Angelico Premier EXL-1 and the Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin today. Both look gorgeous. But when I played them unplugged, I didn’t hear the sound I was expecting. I will have to try the Gretsch again to confirm that perhaps the hollow body is not for me.
