where’s the tele?

I had thought that my ultimate guitar would be a telecaster. But til now, I haven’t had a Fender Telecaster though there are many available. So why haven’t I bought one? 2 reasons. First, telecasters usually do not look pretty enough for me. I know, I know. Beauty is but skin deep. But that’s me. Second, I have not embraced the voice of telecasters enough for me to get one. I could eventually get one but not now.

Surprisingly, I find myself liking the Les Paul. I’m very happy with the Gibson Les Paul Traditional that I have. I may downgrade to a Gibson Les Paul Classic or Studio. But for the low price I have paid for the traditional, I may keep her for good. It looks like any decent Gibson Les Paul is a must-keep.

I honestly believe the PRS CE 24 is an excellent guitar. She is surely more versatile than the Les Paul. Yet, I’m still hoping that I will sell her off for cash. I can’t seem to bond with her. In fact, I probably will not keep a PRS (except maybe a 277).

I have never been interested in keeping a stratocaster (premium or budget). The looks and the sound don’t sync with me. Still, a miracle can happen to make me change my mind.

My long-awaited 1974 Fender Precision Bass is coming back real soon. It’s likely I will sell her at a good price.

Other than the Gibson, I plan to keep another premium guitar for good. Right now, the target is a Tom Anderson Angel or a Lipe Virtuoso or an Ernie Ball Music Man Sabre. And if one of them plays better than my Gibson, the latter will go for a Gibson Studio. I also plan to keep a decent precision bass guitar in the Squier Classic Vibe ’50s. Finally, I still want a Squier Bass VI which is more economical than a vintage Fender. And it has the vibe of a Jaguar.

In summary, guitars I plan to keep:

  1. Gibson Les Paul/Tom Anderson Angel/Lipe Virtuoso/Ernie Ball Music Man Sabre
  2. Gibson Les Paul Studio
  3. Squier Classic Vibe ’50s Precision Bass
  4. Squier Bass VI
