My first bass guitar was a 1980s Fender Japan Precision Bass. I remember that first feeling I had when I played that at the store. Since then, I have had several basses, including a 1974 refinished p bass. Then, I spent more time playing the electric guitar which led to the sale of most basses, except the Sire V7.
Recently, I heard the young bassist in church during the praise session and his bass sound stood out from the rest. The reason was simple: he was playing the p bass. Though it was a Squier P bass, it was enough to stand out from the rest. There and then, I knew I had to rediscover my love for P bass.
And I saw this lovely 1977 Fender Precision Bass a few days ago. I wasted no time to check her out at the lady bassist’s home and she exuded that vintage P bass vibe everywhere. At slightly over 3K, it was quite a bargain for a vintage instrument. I brought her home and the rest is history. Ok, that history is less than a day.
I will take my time to appreciate a vintage Fender P bass a second time. It will be different cos she’s all original.
