Regent Meets the House of Blues
This morning, I had a magical session at Love Notes with Regent, my 1996 R6 with P90s, running through the Kasleder House of Blues into the HT-1R, and finally into my DT 770 Pro headphones. To top it off, I engaged the H.B.E. Mimic Mock I delay, adding subtle depth and texture without overpowering the natural tone. The resulting sounds were nothing short of inspiring — both rhythm and lead, dirt and edge-of-breakup — all felt incredibly musical and responsive.
What contributed to this sweet sound?
1. Fingerstyle Dynamics
I play with my fingers and nails, not a pick. This approach gives me exquisite control over volume and attack. Regent’s P90 neck pickup responds beautifully, producing warmth and clarity with each note. The flesh brings a smooth, rounded attack; the nails add subtle snap and harmonic detail.
2. House of Blues Magic
The HoB’s green and blue sides interact with my touch in a nuanced way. They complement each other, providing a rich tonal palette — from creamy, articulate rhythm to slightly gritty, edge-of-breakup leads. The pedal reacts naturally to touch, and with careful dialing, I can shape both subtle nuances and raw grit without losing musicality.
3. Mimic Mock I Depth
The Mimic Mock I adds dimension to the sound. Its vintage-style delay is subtle, filling out the tone and giving notes just enough space to breathe. It enhances expressiveness without compromising the clarity or bite of the House of Blues.
4. Synergy of Gear and Player
It’s not just the pedal, amp, or delay — it’s the conversation between Regent’s P90s, the House of Blues, Mimic Mock I, and my fingers. This setup allows me to explore dynamic expression in ways that feel alive and musical.
The Takeaway
This morning reminded me why I cherish analog interactions in my rig. Sometimes, the magic is not in chasing more pedals or effects — it’s in letting your hands, your guitar, and a capable pedal speak together. The House of Blues, complemented by the Mimic Mock I, proved yet again that a well-designed analog drive can elevate the playing experience and reward expressive technique.
