spring in session

12 October 2025

This evening belonged to Spring. After a day of intermittently playing, I finally sat down with her at Green Movement, running straight into the HT-1R through the DT 770 Pro. The setup: Orca for tape echo, Broadcast-AP with volume set higher than gain — just enough to bring out her breath without choking it with grit.

I started with exploratory chords, cycling through her pickups — bridge for that sharp, articulate lead; middle for body; neck for warmth and grace. Once I hit the A – E – F# – D loop, everything locked in. The shawbuckers delivered a tone that was muscular yet refined — clear mids, rounded highs, and a bass that felt anchored but never bloated.

What really struck me tonight was how Spring handled dynamics. Pick attack responded beautifully, but when I switched to finger hammering — alternating between pick, middle, and ring fingers while holding the pick between thumb and index — she bloomed. Notes flowed like conversation, each one feeding off the echo and broadcast saturation.

It wasn’t just tone; it was feel. That familiar Fender comfort in the hands, but with a modern response that made every nuance count. When the last note decayed, I realized — Spring isn’t here to replace anyone. She’s here to speak her truth in the language of my home sound.
