Though I’m a new electric guitarist, I have heard enough of the legendary PAF pickups (Patent Applied For) produced by Gibson decades ago. And I also know a pair of original 50s PAF will cost anyone a bomb. However, I just learned that there are modern takes of the PAF. And apparently, Gibson has 3 reissues of the PAF. It turns out that the Les Paul Traditional in my arsenal has one of them in the Burstbuckers (no wonder my Gibson sounds so good). The other 2 are the 57 classic and the Custom Buckers.
Yet, there are other established companies that make pickups that replicate the original PAF sound, especially ThroBak. They have a very useful video about the PAF.
For now, I will learn to enjoy and play with the PAF sound in my Les Paul.
