the tool i almost threw away

I almost threw it out.

The iRig — a simple, unassuming piece of plastic and metal, legacy version at that. It came bundled with a guitar I bought on the cheap ages ago, flipped for a profit, and forgot. The iRig stayed in my piano bench, collecting dust. I didn’t know what it was truly for. No manual. No intent. Just… there.

At one point, I picked it up while reorganising my gear and almost tossed it. Almost. Something told me, “Keep it first.” Maybe that whisper was from the tone gods.

Fast forward to today — a day when I was about to give up on my digital ambitions. My iPad mini’s battery life couldn’t sustain serious exploration. The OMEC Teleport, once promising, now hissed with every signal. Eventide’s beautiful suite of apps seemed further and further from reach.

And then — the iRig.

Plugged it into the headphone jack of the iPad. Connected it to the THR10II. Guitar in. Eventide apps loaded. Signal flowed. And just like that, my dreamscapes, ambience, and layered tones burst to life. Clean. Loud. Inspiring. All from something I had no plan for. Something I nearly discarded.

The tool I almost threw away became the missing link. Proof that sometimes, you don’t need to buy more — you just need to rediscover what you already have.

And that, in a nutshell, is what this gear journey is all about.
